Big Apple Dodgeball’s first ever 4-week, Choose Your Own Team, Badass Dodgeball Tournament is nigh upon us! Please read the details below and check our our FAQ page for even MORE information.

- – - UPDATE 1/26, 9:40 AM: Registration link will appear momentarily. We’ve had trouble with debit cards in the past; please use a credit card NOT a debit card.

Upcoming Important Dates:
Monday, 1/24, 7pm-9:30pm: DRAFT OPEN PLAY. Everyone (it’s open to the public) interested in playing in the tournament is invited to come to the Tony Dapolito Center and play. Scope out people for your team. Scope out teams for yourself to join. Scope out each other for… whatever!

Wednesday, 1/26, 10am: TEAM REGISTRATION. The first ten teams to click here [registration link will appear here when it's ready], complete registration and payment process are the ten teams to play. Choose one representative from your team to register (and put the entire cost of registration on his/her credit card). Will not give refunds because more than one person registered your team.

Friday, 1/28 by 5pm: ROSTER SUBMISSION. Submit a complete and final roster to league@bigappledodgeball.com. Once submitted, no changes will be allowed.

Attention all dodgeballers! There is a new process for bringing guests on Monday nights.

If you would like to bring a guest(s) to dodgeball on Monday night, please send a request to guestlist@bigappledodgeball.com by 3:00 PM the day of play (this is not a negotiable time — 3:01 PM is too late!). They will be added to that Monday’s list. Please have your guest check in at the front desk when they arrive at Tony D’s. Please note, guests are NOT allowed to participate (due to membership and liability issues).

You feeling lucky? We are. And with St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, why not celebrate the drunk, err luck of the Irish with some friends and cocktails. Or cocktails that are your friends. Everyone is invited to this event, so rally the troops and get green for one night.

Women’s Dodgeball Open Play

Ladies, come out to the West Village Monday for some girls-only action. Haven’t played since 6th grade? It’s ok — it’s like riding a bike. Post-play everyone is invited to Henrietta Hudson’s to see if their flip-cup skills match their moves on the court.

Date: Monday, Jan. 25th at 7pm
Where: Tony Dapolito Recreation Center (3 Clarkson Street @ 7th Avenue South)
Cost: Free!

This week’s results and standings have been posted. It looks like Boy Butter sneaks ahead of XES to claim 2nd place. David Barton and Eastern Bloc continue to climb the ranks for the 3rd consecutive week. And American Apparel shuts out Stonewall snagging their first match-win of the season. Henrietta Hudson’s is gonna have to step up their game!

BIG APPLE DODGEBALL

This dodgeball league’s current fifth season is also its biggest, with 180 people enrolled in 18 teams. Big Apple Dodgeball’s growing popularity may have something to do with the friendly get-togethers that follow the series of 15-minute matchups that take place at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center every Monday evening. “We have heard that Big Apple Dodgeball is a drinking league with a dodgeball problem,” jokes its marketing chair, Steve Moreau, adding, “The only place where newbies should feel intimidated is at the flipcup table at the afterparties.”
There are no tryouts, and teams are randomly selected to ensure a mix of playing abilities. The $100 seasonal fee includes a gym membership to all New York City Parks & Recreation locations. Go HERE for full article.

We’re in the home stretch of summer which means three things:

1. You have a hot tan from all those jaunts to Fire Island.
2. That fling will come to an end soon and…
3. It’s almost time for Fall dodgeball!

Here’s the skinny with registration for the Fall season of Big Apple Dodgeball:
August 3 – August 9: Registration opens for returning players (aka Vets) ONLY from Spring 2009.
August 10 – August 24: General registration opens

***Vets, if you want to play in the Fall, it’s important you register early to guarantee yourself a spot.***

BAD! would like to give a big, gay Thank You to everyone who came out and marched with us in the parade yesterday!

What a wonderful day of random dodgeball matches in the middle of 5th Ave, spontaneous games of flip cup (we even played, and may or may not have lost to, the Hunter College kids), and the continuous unloading of swag from the trunk of our beautiful auto-mascot, Madge.

And thanks to everyone in the crowd who cheered us on!

It’s Monday night, game night for NYC’s Big Apple Dodgeball league. The Tony Dapolito Recreation Center is packed with 20- and 30-somethings sporting mesh shorts and t-shirts. All eyes are on the showdown unfolding on the court before them. A lone girl contorts her body, narrowly avoiding the barrage of red rubber balls coming from the massive hulk of a guy on the opposing end of the court. As she desperately tries to avoid taking a “Marsha Brady” type shot to the nose, the onlookers chant her name, drowning out all other sound.
