Are you ready for Spring Dodgeball? We know, it seems like we just took our wigs off from the last season, but it’s that time agian! PLEASE READ everything below for the registration info, important dates and stuff that will ensure you a spot on the court:

SPRING 2012 REGISTRATION LINK AND DATES

Ladies: Registration is going on NOW.
Tuesday, January 31st at 10am: Spring 2011 VETS ONLY (24 hours)
- In order to register as a Vet, you must use the same email address you’ve previously given us. Email web@bigappledodgeball.com if you have any trouble registering.
Wednesday, February 1st at 10am: OPEN Registration (until full)

GENERAL INFO

Season: Monday nights (starting at 7pm) from March 5th – May 14th.

THE FUN STUFF

There will be a MANDATORY Newbies ONLY Open Play (or Boot Camp, if you will) on Monday, February 27th.
Kick-off Party on Wednesday, February 29. More info forthcoming.
You must attend at least 60% of the season in order to have vet status for Fall 2012.

3rd Annual BAD! Halloween Party

This is the 3rd annual BAD! Halloween Party, and you’re invited to watch all the beautiful mayhem go down. Got a mask? Bring it. Got a costume? Try it on for size. Got a mask and a costume? Get crazy and wear them both together. Whatever you wear, just wear it well – there will be prizes for best costume, and you are going to want them.

So join us this Halloween as the boys and girls of Big Apple Dodgeball, Bowling and Kickball (as well as their friends and lovers) come together for one transcendent, magical night of costumed revelry at the Eagle (554 W 28th). The party starts at 8pm and continues through the witching hour; believe us, you are not going to want to miss a moment. RSVP on facebook.

What (as in what should I wear?): A mask, a costume or you could nothing at all. It’s completely up to you.

Kickball Rules

RULES
Let’s be honest: None of us have played kickball since about 5th grade, so we’re a little rusty with the rules. We’re asking everyone for a little bit of patience, because they *may* change over the course of our short season. We’ll start with the basics and move forward from there, so let’s all play nice and see how it goes, shall we? Here’s what you need to know:

The general rules of baseball apply with these exceptions/additions (again, these are the basics and we will be adding/adjusting throughout the season):

Games will last 45-minutes (or 7 innings)
Minimum of 2 women must play on the field at all times
Substitutions: ARE allowed, provided they do NOT play on another team.
Number of people on the field at the same time is 10 (there are 12 people on each team)
You may “stike/hit” a person with the ball to get them out.
There are no strike outs or walks. Four foul balls is an out.
“Tagging up” is NOT allowed on foul balls.
You cannot “lead off” the base. You must remain on the base until the ball is kicked.
There is NO bunting. A bunt is defined as not taking a full swing/kick.
There is a 7-run mercy rule per inning.
If a team is winning by 15 or more runs a the end of the 5th inning, the game will be called.
If a game is tied at the end of 45 minutes (or 7 innings), it is marked as a tie.
NO cleats are allowed.
Player Interference: If a player intentionally interferes with a play, it will be an automatic out. Intentional interference is decided upon at the ref’s discretion.
If a runner gets hit by a kicked ball, that runner should be out and the ball/play declared dead, unless the runner is still on the base when struck.
Runners are allow ONE base only on an over-throw.
If a foul ball is kicked over the TALL fence on either field, it is an out.
Bases will be spaced 60-feet apart.
Pitches must be smooth-rolling at a moderate speed (no fastballs), with minimal bouncing and little to no spin.
Once the pitcher has the ball in control and retains possession on the mound, the play ends. Runners who are off base at this time and in forward motion may advance only one base. Runners who are off base at this time and not in forward motion must return to the base from which they were running.
Kickers must kick within the kicking box. He/she must have at least a portion of the plant foot within the kicking box during the kick. The kicker may line up outside of the kicking box.
Absolutely NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED within the park. It is again NYC Parks and Recreation rules. Violators will be subject to expulsion from the league and all Big Apple sports.

Kickball: Week 1

We are so pumped that you are all part of the inaugural season of Big Apple Kickball. The fun starts Tuesday, Oct. 4, so please read on for important info…

Get to the fields (10th Ave at 28th St) at 7:30pm to meet your team, get your tees and find out the schedule.

Season will run from Oct. 4-25 (Tuesdays; 4 weeks)
Games will be played from 8pm-10:30pm.
Teams will play TWO games per night.
We are playing RAIN or SHINE, so please bring what you need to keep you warm and dry!

So you took the summer off, got tan, had a few flings… now what? Bowling. That’s what. Mark your calendars with this info so you don’t miss the Fall season.

Fall Bowling Info

Season starts Sunday, Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 20 (six weeks)
Bowling will be on Sundays at Frames from 3-5pm.
Registration opens Sept. 28 at 10am

Co-Ed Charity Tournament Wrap-up

Big Apple Dodgeball had its first ever Summer Co-Ed Charity tournament in August and team “Lesbian Swan” swooped in to take the crown. The tournament was co-sponsored by Gym Bar and Rockbar and all proceeds of the tourney will go to the GLSEN Sports Project. GLSEN’s mission is to assist K-12 schools in creating and maintaining an athletic and physical education climate that is based on the core principles of respect, safety and equal access for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. BAD! is delighted to have been able to raise $2250, in cooperation with Gym Bar and RockBar, to educate the youth about tolerance and accepting all people regardless of sexual orientation or identity.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR MONDAY

You must BRING A LOCK and a photo ID to get into the gym. NO exceptions.
Arrive to the gym NO LATER than 6:45pm (games start at 7pm sharp).
Download this form, fill it out and bring it with you to get your teeshirt.
After party on Monday is at Henrietta Hudson’s ($3 drafts) – Hudson at Morton St.
Read/review the Rules.
The schedule will be posted shortly to the site.

TEAM NAME + CAPTAIN
Please come up with a team name and captain and send to me after Monday.
