As you may (or may not!) know, Big Apple Dodgeball (BAD!) has grown from an 80-person dodgeball league in 2007 to New York City’s premiere LGBT social sports organization. Thanks to your continued support, we’re able to have more seasons, more sports, more people and more fun.

This may come as a shocker, but BAD! does not run itself! We are a non-profit organization and rely on volunteers to make sure there are always dodgeballs in the cage, lanes to bowl on and kickball shirts ordered (in the right size). We are always in need of passionate, creative and responsible individuals to help run the leagues. This is where you come in…

We are looking for DODGEBALL, KICKBALL and BOWLING members to keep the BAD! organization running strong. Here’s a snippet of what we do:

Work with local sponsors
Keep the website fresh
Player registration
Manage vendor relationships
Marketing for events/seasons
Write press releases
Plan parties
Organize presence in Pride March
Manage refs/rules
Order equipment
Fundraising for charity
Business development and strategy

If you want to get involved and share your expertise (or learn more about how we operate), we would love to have you join the Committee and/or the Board.

How it Works

Any member of the organization can join the Committee. Once you serve on the Committee for ONE season, you may run for a position on the General Board. Once you have served on the General Board for ONE season, you may run for a position on the Executive Board. Active Committee members vote for the General Board; the General Board (only) votes for the Executive Board.

Welcome Back, Big Apple Bowlers! We hope your holidays were lovely and restful, because another season of Big Apple Bowling is upon us! Huzzah! Now, please keep reading for IMPORTANT DATES AND INFO…

Our first week of bowling is THIS SUNDAY, January 8th!! Please arrive NO LATER THAN 2:30 PM, so we can make sure everything is set to begin promptly at 3:00.

End of Season Fall 2011 Party

After 11 weeks of dodgeball, countless after-party drink specials and many Tuesday morning hangovers, the end of season is nigh… and it is time to WIG OUT. That’s right, this year’s End of Season party all about wigs, wigs, WIGS!

Schedule your appointment for Wednesday, December 7th to get your hair did (or your do on) and get to Splash Bar at 7:30pm to close out the Fall season. There will be 2-for-1 drink specials, superlatives, special guest performances, tournament and regular season awards and more, including specials from premier sponsor MGD64! So, postpone those awkward holiday drinks with the boss, grab a wig and get down to Splash for Big Apple Dodgeball’s last (and best!) hurrah of 2011!

3rd Annual BAD! Halloween Party

This is the 3rd annual BAD! Halloween Party, and you’re invited to watch all the beautiful mayhem go down. Got a mask? Bring it. Got a costume? Try it on for size. Got a mask and a costume? Get crazy and wear them both together. Whatever you wear, just wear it well – there will be prizes for best costume, and you are going to want them.

So join us this Halloween as the boys and girls of Big Apple Dodgeball, Bowling and Kickball (as well as their friends and lovers) come together for one transcendent, magical night of costumed revelry at the Eagle (554 W 28th). Co-Ed Charity Tournament Wrap-up

Big Apple Dodgeball had its first ever Summer Co-Ed Charity tournament in August and team “Lesbian Swan” swooped in to take the crown. The tournament was co-sponsored by Gym Bar and Rockbar and all proceeds of the tourney will go to the GLSEN Sports Project. GLSEN’s mission is to assist K-12 schools in creating and maintaining an athletic and physical education climate that is based on the core principles of respect, safety and equal access for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. BAD! is delighted to have been able to raise $2250, in cooperation with Gym Bar and RockBar, to educate the youth about tolerance and accepting all people regardless of sexual orientation or identity.

Welcome to the Fall season of Big Apple Dodgeball. You should have gotten an email with your teammates. If you did not, please email league@bigappledodgeball.com immediately. You can also check your team out here.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR MONDAY

You must BRING A LOCK and a photo ID to get into the gym. NO exceptions.
Arrive to the gym NO LATER than 6:45pm (games start at 7pm sharp).
Download this form, fill it out and bring it with you to get your teeshirt.
After party on Monday is at Henrietta Hudson’s ($3 drafts) – Hudson at Morton St.
Read/review the Rules.
The schedule will be posted shortly to the site.

TEAM NAME + CAPTAIN
Please come up with a team name and captain and send to me after Monday.

BAD! Fall 2011 Open Season Party

Hey BAD! Boys and Girls, we hope you’ve had a wonderful summer, but it’s back to school time and you know what that means… DODGEBALL!

The Fall 2011 season is kicking off on Wednesday, September 7 at Stonewall Bar (53 Christopher Street). The theme is Geek Chic, which means knee socks, sweater vest, glasses and bow ties are all acceptable.

Important Info
Who: Everyone! The more the merrier.
What: As in “What are the drink specials?”

Are you ready for Fall Dodgeball to get underway? Then you NEED TO READ the below for the registration info, important dates and stuff that will ensure you a spot on the court:

FALL 2011 REGISTRATION DATES

NOW LIVE: Ladies only registration. Register here NOW!
Tuesday, August 23 at 10am: Spring 2011 VETS and CHARITY TOURNEY PLAYERS ONLY (24 hours)
- In order to register as a Vet, you must use the same email address you’ve previously given us. Email web@bigappledodgeball.com if you have any trouble registering.
Wednesday August 24 at 10am: OPEN Registration (until full)

GENERAL INFO

Season: Monday nights (starting at 7pm) from September 12 – December 5.

Cost: $140*/player

*Please note the registration fee increased due to Parks and Rec memberships costs DOUBLING on July 1, 2011. Our cost per player for membership to the gym was $37.50, and now is $75. While this increase was not our decision, we are incurring as much of the cost as possible to keep the dodgeball registration price down.

THE FUN STUFF

There will be a MANDATORY Newbies ONLY Open Play (or Boot Camp, if you will) on Monday, August 29.
Returning players (and anyone else) who wants a pre-season warm-up, join us for Open Play Saturdays at 1pm on the Handball courts outside Tony D.
Kick-off Party on Wednesday, September 7 at Stonewall Bar (53 Christopher Street. It’s back-to-school time, so get your Geek Chic outfit together!
You must attend at least 60% of the season in order to have vet status for Spring 2012.
